We’ve all heard the saying, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”, haven’t we? That’s because it is true. All work with no time to do the things you like and enjoy outside of work may be taxing to your mental and physical health. The same applies when you are studying and in school; you need to strike a balance and afford yourself time to do the things you enjoy. Let’s take a look at how you can strike the balance between study and play with Study & Stay.
Organise And Take Control Of Your Time
One of the easiest ways to lose track of your time is to not manage it. If you passively take on your days based on a ‘whatever life throws at you’ attitude, you will never find time to rest or enjoy your hobbies. It is important to understand that you are in control of your schedule and time. So organise it by having a checklist of your day-to-day tasks and ticking them off upon completion. Not only are you completing your taste, but you are also learning how long it realistically takes to complete them and seeing yourself free up time in the future for you to enjoy yourself.
Give Self-Care Its Time
Whether it is a whole day of washing your hair and braiding it, doing your nails, taking care of your skin, or simply exercising, it is important that you slot self-care into your schedule. What good are you as a student if you are not physically and mentally prepared to take on the tasks that await you? Prioritise your physical, emotional, and mental health, and find ways to take care of them by doing things you like and things that will benefit them, such as exercising, getting your nails done, or getting a facial. Remember, a lot of these self-care activities can be done at home with the help of tutorials, so you don’t have to break your bank in order to give yourself some self-care love.
Get Yourself Some Help Too
The thing about managing your time and affording yourself the space to study and enjoy yourself is that you may think you have everything under control and that your times will always balance well according to how you planned them. But one thing you learn in adulthood is that things don’t always go according to plan, and that is why you will find some people using planners and time management apps and tools, as well as task managers. What these apps and tools do is they hold you accountable and keep sending you reminders for which tasks need completion, etc… You cannot manage everything all at once on your own, so use the features of your electrical devices and give yourself study time and playtime with ease.
Join A Community Or Two
How are you going to finish studying and make time for a market if you do not have an accountability partner? Or, how are you going to enjoy said market without anyone to show you around? While solo dates are great and give you time to sit with yourself and enjoy your own company, you may have a social battery needing to be charged from time to time. Or you may need some study group help to complete a certain assignment – the odds are limitless. So, join clubs and groups of people with the same interests and goals as you, and maybe spice it up with a group that does something you like that is outside of your studying, maybe like a running club or a painting club or a dance club. Not only will you be enjoying yourself and striking that study/play balance, but you will also be surrounded by like-minded people sharing information and empowering one another.
